About Low Risk Maternity Care
At Low Risk Maternity Care, we are a group of family physicians and midwives committed to providing exceptional care for women throughout their maternity journey. Our clinic was founded with a passion for women's health and a deep desire to offer compassionate, personalized support. We focus on empowering each woman with the knowledge and care she needs to feel confident and supported during this important time.
Family physicians are general family practice medical doctors with a special interest in maternity care. Our family doctors can assist you if you need a test or care for a complication or a condition unrelated to your pregnancy.
Midwives have a bachelor's degree in midwifery. They can write prescriptions for commonly used medications in pregnancy and can also provide you with information regarding natural treatments. Some patients will also be offered post partum home visits, where the patient can be assessed in the comfort of their own home. This program is still being developed and more information will be available shortly. It is important to note that midwives working with our clinic will not be able to offer certain aspects of traditional midwifery care, such as out of hospital births, waterbirths, and guaranteed home visits.
All of our patients will be delivered on the fifth floor of Foothills Medical Centre located at 1403 29 St NW, Calgary, Alberta.

Why Choose Us?
We offer families a supportive birth experience at Foothills medical centre. We offer families the choice of the timing of their birth including planned cesarean birth, planned induction of labour, as well as options to promote spontaneous labour. We offer support for unmedicated labour as well as an in house anaesthetist, 1:1 nursing support and up to 2 additional support people of your choice. We welcome the support of your doula, if they are a part of your care team.
Each labour room is equipped with a private bathroom including shower (bathtub based on availability), laughing gas, oxygen, electronic fetal monitoring, and Panda warmers. Based on your birth wishes, as discussed with your care provider, we support your labour choices with informed discussions at decision points along the way. This includes the option for epidural analgesia should you request it. There is 24-7 emergency care should your labour become high risk and require the care of an obstetrician. Our priority is to ensure a safe and healthy experience for both mom and baby.
Newborn babies typically room in with their mother on the post partum unit and partners are welcome to spend the night. Visitors are welcome! A typical stay is 24h after vaginal delivery and 48 hours after cesarean birth. Ask your doctor if your birth is suitable for early discharge. Our post partum unit is supported by registered nurses specialized in infant feeding, lactation consultants, nurse practitioners, virtual translators, and pediatricians as required. Our hospital supports infant feeding by supporting breastfeeding, providing formula supplements when necessary, and the option to purchase human donor milk from Northern Star Mother's Milk Bank. Hospital post-partum care includes screening for hyperbilirubinemia, metabolic syndromes and hearing screening. Foothills Medical Centre is equipped with a level 3 nursery NICU for babies that require additional support.
